            TL;DR: Swoop processes everything locally on your device. Your screen recordings, webcam footage, audio, and AI-generated captions never leave your browser. We cannot access your data.
        

1. Who We Are

Swoop ("we", "us", "our") is a browser-based screen recording and video editing tool distributed as a Chrome Extension. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information.

2. What Data We Collect

Data we DO NOT collect:

Screen recordings, webcam footage, or microphone audio
Video editing projects or exported files
Browsing history, URLs, or page content
Keystroke or mouse telemetry beyond the recording session
Personal files or documents on your device

Data we DO collect:

License validation: When you purchase Swoop Pro, your license key is validated via Gumroad's API. This sends your license key (not your personal data) to verify your purchase status.
Chrome Web Store analytics: Google may collect anonymous usage statistics (install counts, browser version, country) through the Chrome Web Store. We do not control this data.

3. How Your Recordings Are Stored

All recordings are stored exclusively in your browser's Origin Private File System (OPFS) — a sandboxed storage area that only the Swoop extension can access. The data:

Never leaves your device
Is not uploaded to any server
Is not accessible to other websites or extensions
Is automatically deleted when you clear browser data or uninstall the extension

4. AI Features (Captions & Silence Detection)

Swoop's AI features (Whisper-based speech-to-text and Silero voice activity detection) run entirely on your device using WebAssembly. Audio data is processed locally and is never transmitted to any server.

5. Telemetry & Cursor Data

During a recording session, Swoop captures mouse movements, clicks, scrolls, and keystrokes to power the auto-zoom engine. This telemetry is:

Stored locally in OPFS alongside the recording
Never transmitted to any server
Used solely for generating zoom animations in the editor
Deleted when the recording is deleted

6. Third-Party Services

Gumroad: Handles payment processing for Pro upgrades. Their privacy policy is available at gumroad.com/privacy.
Google Chrome Web Store: Handles extension distribution. Google's privacy policy applies to CWS interactions.

We do not use any analytics services (Google Analytics, Mixpanel, etc.) within the extension itself.

7. Cookies & Tracking

The Swoop extension does not use cookies, tracking pixels, or any form of cross-site tracking. This website (swoop.video) does not use cookies.

8. Data Retention

We do not store any user data on our servers. Your local data persists in OPFS until you:

Delete a recording within the extension
Clear your browser's storage data
Uninstall the extension

9. Children's Privacy

Swoop is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. Your Rights

Since we don't collect or store personal data on our servers, there is no data to request, modify, or delete. Your recordings and editing data are entirely under your control on your local device.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
